As far as a sound quality + scratch mixer, I am pretty sure this is still king cheese or what?

J-Skratch gettin' it done !!

For sure man, as far as audio quality goes I have always been a fan of Rane. The magnetic faders on the TTM56/57 are some of the best faders I have ever  used. Not as common but the Rodec Scratchbox and the A & H Xone:02 are also beasts as far as sound and build.

Honestly if you have any interest in learning to scratch the rane ttm56s will give you a leg up on getting started. I know it has for me.

J, you need a second room for that setup!

When are you coming back up north?  It's been way too long.

the magnetic faders are what i keep hearing about. and for the money you pay for the mixer, i'm thinking it's not as expensive as it looks since you get serato with it, right?

Forgot about this! I finally got around to finding my camera...

It's not really a dj set up per se, but I think it still fits here.

I'm too lazy to post all of the equipment. If anyone's curious, ask.

do you produce your own tracks and then mix them?

Serato is built in to the TTM57. The SSL GUI is also a little different if you buy a 57 since you can control multiple features from the mixer itself. Either way the fader quality and the audio quality of Rane is what you are paying for. Magnetic faders will never bleed (only time I have ever seen one bleed is when the actual magnets inside of the mixer were not lined up) and all 3 faders on the 56/57 are swapable. They are also very low maintenance as far as cleaning and lubing. Plus Ranes customer care is exceptional.

I kinda miss my micro korg.

Dude, it's invaluable just as a midi controller... I use it way more than my ReMote just because it slides under the desk. Tiny keys are good for people that never learned how to play piano

i'd say in the past 5 or so years, it's come to the point where most touring djs produce their own music or at the very least remixes.  it's almost a pre-requisite now.

i'm all for it, although i'm even more for people just making more awesome music that's not specifically geared towards djs.

Here's a couple new additions to the studio since my last post.

From the top:

Prophet 08 synth module
Mopho mono synth
Tascam Dr07 field recorder
Bongos
Akai s900 12 bit sampler (I've had this forever, just got it out of storage)

Anyone looking to get a analog synth on a budget, look no further than the Mopho. At $399, it's a fucking beast. The filters, envelope and raw ass sound this thing can generate is just fantastic. I like more than the Moog offerings which are shit loads more money. Thick bass for days. The field recorder is probably my favorite (and least expensive) of the lot. Recording your own sounds has took my music making to another level. It's just so fun.
